​​​​​​​Dr. Zhang is a licensed acupuncturist in the United States (Arizona) and China. She earned her doctor’s degree in Western Medicine in 1991 from Hunan Medical University in China and her doctor’s degree in Immunology from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the United States. Following years of successful practice, Dr. Zhang broadened her interests to apply traditional Chinese medicine to address her growing frustration over western medicine’s limited approach to diagnosing and treating common ailments including all kinds of chronic pain, infertility, Hashimoto disease, Graves disease, Hypertension, Type II diabetes,  MS, Lupus, RA, and more. While glucosteroids, immunodepressants or biologicals are widely used for many autoimmune diseases, some of her patients presented experienced conditions for which western medicine could provide no explanation or treatment.


Having come from a family of doctors practicing traditional Chinese medicine, Dr. Zhang has witnessed the beneficial and curative effects  such traditional medicine has on numerous patients in China. She returned to China to study acupuncture, moxibustion and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the Traditional Medicine Research Institute in Beijing. From here, she went on to practice acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Changsha, China.

After years of working in Western Medicine field, Dr. Zhang seeks a more integrative approach to treating certain conditions. Her determination to understand the root causes of  such difficult-to-treat diseases from both the Western and Eastern approaches to medicine led her to pursue further studies. Therefore, she continued her education earning a Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) and a Master’s degree in Acupuncture  (MSOA)  from the Institute of Phoenix Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture of Arizona (PIHMA).

Dr. Zhang has had numerous publications in the fields of immunology, hypertension, and gastric cancer, in the peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Immunology,Hypertension, and the Journal of Immunology. She received the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and the Travel Award of Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies Annual Meeting. She was also a professional member of American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

Through her years of training and practice, Dr. Zhang has had extensive experience in treating:

Dr. Zhang’s use of the TCM techniques of herbal medicine and acupuncture has successfully treated patients with hypertension, hyper thyroid disease, hypo thyroid disease, and sinus and allergies. Many patients with severe sinus problem no longer need inhalers and surgery. Dr. Zhang has also used herbal medicine to cure one patient with uterine fibroid and used acupuncture to cure another patient with ovary cyst. Both methods proved to be successful.  She has also helped cancer patients with decreased white blood cells, bone marrow depression, alopecia, and loss of appetite—symptoms often associated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.
